The latest version of GPT is GPT-4, which was launched on March 14, 2023, by OpenAI. It is a natural language generation system that can produce text on various topics and tasks, such as answering questions, writing essays, composing songs, and more. GPT-4 is based on the Transformer architecture, which uses attention mechanisms to learn from large amounts of text data. GPT-4 has 1.2 trillion parameters, which is almost seven times more than GPT-3, the previous version. GPT-4 is also more creative, accurate, and safe than GPT-3, according to OpenAI¹. Some of the features and improvements of GPT-4 are:

- It can generate, edit, and iterate with users on creative and technical writing tasks, such as composing songs, writing screenplays, or learning a user’s writing style.
- It can solve difficult problems with greater accuracy, thanks to its broader general knowledge and problem solving abilities.
- It can handle visual input, such as images or diagrams, and generate relevant text or captions.
- It can respond to requests for disallowed content, such as harmful or abusive language, with 82% less likelihood than GPT-3.5.
- It can produce factual responses with 40% more likelihood than GPT-3.5.

GPT-4 is currently available through ChatGPT Plus, a paid service that costs $20 per month and provides access to the full capabilities of GPT-4. ChatGPT Plus also offers faster and more reliable service than the free version of ChatGPT, which still uses GPT-3.5. Other services that use GPT-4 technology include Quora’s Poe Subscriptions, Microsoft’s Bing search engine, and Claude, an AI chatbot from Anthropic.

OpenAI has also announced that they are working on an intermediate version between GPT-4 and the upcoming GPT-5, which will be called GPT-4.5. This version will be introduced in September or October 2023 and will include some new features and enhancements. The release date and details of GPT-5 are not yet known, but some speculate that it might achieve artificial general intelligence (AGI), which is the ability of a machine to perform any intellectual task that a human can do. However, OpenAI does not confirm this claim, and there is also some pushback from the AI community about the ethical and social implications of creating such a powerful system.
